Rugby League fans craving Sunday afternoon finals football need not look any further than Leichhardt Oval this Sunday, 24 September.
Week three of the Jersey Flegg Cup final series sees an action-packed double-header with Newcastle, Penrith, St George-Illawarra and the Bulldogs all gunning for a spot in the grand final on October 1 at Telstra Stadium.
Sunday’s action starts at 12.40pm when the Penrith Panthers face off against the Bulldogs in the first preliminary final.
Having emerged victorious from a thrilling encounter with the Sydney Roosters last week, another Bulldogs win will give the 2003 premiers a shot at the title after finishing this year’s regular season in sixth.
The second preliminary final between Jersey Flegg frontrunners the Newcastle Knights and the St George-Illawarra Dragons follows immediately, at 2.30pm.
The Knights enjoyed a huge 40-10 win against the Canberra Raiders in week one of the finals series and will head into Sunday’s match fresh from a week’s break.
Meanwhile, the Dragons are coming off a spirited win against Manly last week and, similar to the club’s first grade side, have found form at the right time of the season.
The defending Jersey Flegg Cup premiers will need to be at their best to topple the ladder-topping Knights.
Tickets are available at the front gates of Leichhardt Oval, priced at $5 for adults and free for children under the age of 16.
The Leichhardt Oval press area will be available to media representatives wishing to base their operations at the venue for the day.
Gates open at 12pm.
