Arrive Alive Cup preview
Wednesday, 20th June 2007

Despite opening only four years ago, The Hills Sports High has proved itself as a major force in the high school sporting arena.  Their trophy cabinet is groaning under the weight of many champion and runners-up trophies won in various competitions throughout NSW. While boasting a younger side than most, The Hills Sports High do boast several Sydney and NSW representatives in their roster, including Wade Graham, the captain of the NSW under 17s team.

The players will take a lot of inspiration and guidance from their coaching staff, with head coach Dallas Weston representing several NRL clubs at First Grade level over a 10-year career.  Assistant coach Mark Horo also brings plenty of experience, with no less than 16 tests and 2 World Cups for New Zealand, as well as over 120 first grade games in the NRL.

Westfields Sports High School, since becoming a designated sports high in 1992, has become a serious contender for the Arrive alive Cup. Quarter finalists in the Cup in 2003, Westfields Sports has also claimed numerous schoolboy rugby league titles across several competitions.

Their squad is dotted with several Harold Matthews and SG Ball players, and the team will look to prop Joel Latham, a NSW CHS Opens representative. The players will hope to follow in the footsteps of many former students that played or are still playing in the NRL, including Kangaroos Michael Buettner and Luke O’Donnell.

Head coach Wayne Lambkin has an impressive coaching history, currently on the coaching staff for the South Sydney Rabbitohs, and involved in coaching several other NRL teams over the past 14 years.  Assistant coach Tony Wignell is the current coach of the Sydney Metro Schoolboys opens and under 15s side, while also involved in the Balmain / Ryde Premier League team.

Match Details - Friday 22 June, 4pm, Brookvale Oval
