13 teams confirmed for 2013 VB NSW Cup
24/10/2012 10:26:43 AM

The Board of the New South Wales Rugby League has today announced that 13 teams will compete in the 2013 VB NSW Cup competition.

The Board also endorsed Wyong’s application for the 2013 season and reiterated an edict from the VB NSW Cup Management Committee to work with representatives from the Albury Thunder and Melbourne Storm to ensure they fulfil all the necessary criteria ahead of the 2014 season.

“Wyong’s entry into the VB NSW Cup and the thought of Albury entering in the near future is a real positive for this competition,” NSWRL General Manager, Geoff Carr, said.

“Newcastle’s return this year, along with Canberra’s partnership with Mounties, helped strengthen the competition to the point where we had twelve teams vying for a finals berth in the last few rounds of the regular season.

“The competition also produced 36 debutants for the Telstra Premiership which was an increase of five from the 2011 season and significantly more than the other second tier competitions.”

Following on from the success of the Newtown and Windsor match in Parkes this year, the NSWRL will also be looking to take several VB NSW Cup fixtures to country areas in season 2013.

The calendar will again feature special events throughout the season with double and triple headers planned for various weekends during the regular season.

It is envisaged the 2013 VB NSW Cup draw will be released to the participating Clubs and public by the end of November.

Sad Sad,,Why can not the powers to be support the foundation/traditional clubs of OUR great competition,,are we headed to be like the NFL ( american franchised league),,Keep the the Tigers and Magpies as seperate teams, at least in this comp. I am a souths supporter,,and am happy for Souths to support Norths,,If Wyong is accepted,,please NSWRL,,KEEP the TIGERS

I still want to know why is the NSW cup isn't played as a prelim to the NRL games. These guys are a stone throw away from playing in NRL and they play on some fields that are no better than goat tracks. IMO the footy is far better than the TC and more tribal.....cheers

The Magpies were an embarrassment last season. There's no way they could continue in their current form. How will Wyong compete, not having and NRL affiliate?

the time has come for west and balmain to merge in the VB cup...maybe we can have better players that can stand up in the NRL...

What a joke No Western Suburbs team in this comp..!108 years and no one at the NRL gives a hoot only the Balmain supporters and don't tell me to move on because if the boot was on the other foot we would be seeing how many of you would cry..

Where are the Westeren Suburbs Magpies in the NSWRL 2013 VB Cup so we are now faced with the Tigers taking over everything so much for the fans out West just don't worry about them, so now the Magpie are out of the NRL & the NSWRL 2013 VB Cup thanks very much. I will never watch another NRL or NSWRL game agan.Proud Western Suburbs Magpie Supporter. Stephen Walker.
