The NSW Ministry of Health is partnering with NSW Rugby League to reduce the rates of chronic disease in Aboriginal communities. A health challenge will be organised from March - June 2013. This health challenge is a community, incentive based challenge aligned with the Aboriginal Rugby League Knock out held in October each year. The challenge is designed to motivate people to manage their risk factors associated with chronic disease.
Teams that place 1-3 will be awarded community grants to assist local community groups to improve nutrition and increase physical activity.
The concept behind the challenge is part of the Culture Health Communities strategy that brings together Aboriginal culture and communities to improve Health.
The results from 2012 indicate that the winning teams were well supported from a number of different professionals. We are seeking your support for communities that enter teams in the 2013 challenge.
