Souths Juniors have given 16 New South Wales youngsters a late Christmas present by sponsoring their participation in the NSWRL January Players Camp.
The players from regional area’s such as Moruya, Coffs Harbour and Kempsey were given the opportunity to experience the four day skills camp held at the Sydney Institute of Sport and Recreation at Narrabeen.
As well as completing football-based drills, the lucky players were able to participate in the Institutes facilities including canoeing, ropes courses and aquatic centre activities.
Camp Manager Stuart Stanton heaped praise on The Juniors for providing a unique opportunity for children from rural areas.
“All the boys have been well behaved and the feedback we're getting is that they have thoroughly enjoyed the camp,” Stanton said.
“For Souths Juniors to selflessly pay for these kids to attend the camp out of their own pockets is something which should be applauded.
“We almost had to cancel the camp due to a lack of access to fields, but after we capped the camp at 90 we were able to go ahead.
“The January Camp is our first major event in 2013 and we are hopeful of building on the success of this camp throughout the year.”
