The VB NSW Cup is the State's second-tier competition with clubs run as direct feeders to NRL Telstra Premiership sides.

The 2013 VB NSW Cup will feature 13 teams. 12 from NSW and one from New Zealand. It is also worth noting that in 2013, the Cronulla Sharks have once again entered into a relationship with the Melbourne Storm which will see some of their players also competing in the VB NSW Cup.

New teams competing in 2013 are the Wests Tigers and Wyong Roos.
The competition will be run over a 26 week period and will include one bye week around State of Origin III which coincides with the selection of the VB NSW Cup Representative side.

The VB NSW Cup Representative side is picked from all eligible players competing in the VB NSW Cup and they play the QLD Residents in an annual fixture as a curtain raiser to State of Origin III in Sydney.
