The NSW VB Blues and their players have capped off an historic year by capturing the public's imagination and winning several major awards at the Dally Ms last night. The Blues won both the 'Peter Frilingos Headline Moment of the Year’ and, through Jarryd Hayne, the Representative Player of the Year awards.

In a reflection of the public’s overwhelming support of the Blues, the majority of the nominations for the Peter Frilingos award came from this year’s State of Origin triumph. Coach Laurie Daley said the nominations were a testament to NSW VB Blues’ successful and memorable campaign.

“It shows you how big Origin is when four out of the six nominations come from the series,” Daley said.

“It’s a recognition of the players and what we were able to achieve this year in terms of engaging the state and playing for them, and getting the result everyone desperately wanted."

Nominated alongside the series victory claimed in Origin II was Brett Morris’s freakish try in Origin I, as well as his crucial tackle on Darius Boyd. He was up for the honour alongside brother Josh Morris for his memorable try-saving tackle on Greg Inglis.

Hayne secured the Representative Player of the Year award on the back of a memorable and influential Origin campaign.

“It’s a reflection on how he plays in big games,” Daley said.

"I think it’s important that you have big-game players in your team and he thoroughly deserved winning it."

Jarryd Hayne’s outstanding regular-season performances for the Eels were also recognised last night, as he both won the main Dally M award alongside Johnathan Thurston and secured a spot in the Team of the Year. NSW VB Blues team-mate Beau Scott also secured a spot in the team as Dally M Second Rower of the Year.

Young gun and NSW junior representative Luke Brooks also walked away with an award, claiming the Dally M Rookie of the Year.

NSWRL CEO David Trodden was thrilled to see the Blues once again up in lights.

“Our State Of Origin team this year captured the imagination of the whole NSW public and the fact that we did that was identified by four out of the six headline moments coming from our series victory,” Trodden said.

"It was great to once again celebrate the success, something we’re determined to continue in the years ahead.”
