Origin is almost here! We're celebrating this special time of the year by counting down our favourite NSW Origin memories. With just one day to go, we reveal our highest-ranked all-time favourite Blues moment – the moment Gal, Loz and the NSW VB Blues recorded their greatest ever triumph... and ended an era.

Is there a more iconic photo in Origin history – an image that sums up the emotional rollercoaster that is rugby league – than this?

After eight years of suffering entering the 2014 series, the NSW VB Blues were desperate for victory – and this moment, at the end of Game II at ANZ Stadium, captures the sheer relief and incredible importance of Origin to coach Laurie Daley and captain Paul Gallen… and so many others.

The moment, Daley proudly striding out onto the middle of the turf to meet and eventually embrace his warhorse leader, encapsulates the ecstasy, the agony and the overwhelming outpouring of emotion that goes hand in hand with State of Origin football.

And, of course, the moment captures the ending of Queensland’s era of dominance – and, quite possibly, the start of something beautiful from our NSW VB Blues.

As Daley said to Gallen as they eventually embraced, “Yeah, baby!”
