Writing from the opposite side of the world, 16-year-old Tyson Hodge, opens up on an emotional experience as the Indigenous Young Achievers Tour continues in France.

The last few days have seen some tremendous highs and terrible lows. It’s weird when you’re on holiday enjoying your time away but then there are mixed feelings about the situation in Paris and how sad it is.

Attending Euro Disney was a great moment for me. All my life I have always wanted to go to Disneyland and to finally experience that was a dream come true. To share that with the boys was incredible, and I know they really had a great time too.

When we left Paris to travel to Perpignan, we travelled on the fast train that hit speeds of over 300 kmph! Sitting on the train with the boys for over five hours, laughing and joking with the boys was a highlight. It’s funny how some of the most memorable experiences of the trip are in those ordinary moments when the team is just passing time, or at breakfast or when hanging out at the hotel.

Waking up to the news of the people murdered in Paris was heartbreaking. To think we were walking the streets only a few hours earlier is a feeling that will stay with me for a very long time. That’s a feeling that’s very hard to shake and my heart goes out to everyone in France right now.
