In a bid to eliminate offensive behaviour on and off the field, New South Wales Rugby League are implementing a ‘Respect Pledge’ for captains and coaches to take ahead of the 2016 seasons.

To ensure all participants act in a manner that displays the core values of the game, every NSWRL and NSWRL JLA competition will be involved in the initiative.

The captains and coaches taking the pledge will then encourage team-mates and squad members to respect the game and each other, thereby developing stronger relationships with referees, while respecting opponents and spectators.

In addition to taking the pledge, coaches and players will line up in the middle of the field to shake hands; the captains and coaches will wear an armband with “C” on it to identify them as the leaders, while postage and signage will be displayed at fields to enforce the respect message.
