The countdown to Origin is on – and we're celebrating this special time of year by counting down our favourite NSW Origin memories. With just nine days to go, here’s our ninth-placed all-time favourite Blues moment

NSW State of Origin heroes range from 31-game veterans to one-game wonders, and never has this been better illustrated than in Game I of 2000 when a Cronulla Sharks legend won the game for the NSW Blues… in his sole outing for his state.

With the scores locked at 16-all and just four minutes remaining, the Blues were looking to take advantage of an extra man after “Raging Bull” Gorden Tallis had been sent from the field - and they turned to the rookie.

The Blues shifted the ball to the right side of the field where debutant David Peachey was standing, and after he received a pass from Jamie Ainscough he made no mistake in getting to the try-line and planting the ball down to win the game for NSW.

This photo captures the pure excitement and exhilaration of a man playing an imperative role in a NSW Blues victory – and a man who was ultimately fulfilling a childhood dream.

Peachey only represented his state once, but proved that Origin heroes can display their class even with limited opportunities. The efforts of all NSW players – regardless of the amount of appearances – are greatly appreciated.

Here’s to all our True Blues, whether they played one or 31!
