The  Sydney Metropolitan Women’s Rugby League resumed this weekend after a week off for the Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend which followed a washed out week due to Sydney’s wild weather earlier this month.

The action actually kicked off on Wednesday night with the inaugural Lyn Smith Trophy being contested between the Cronulla-Caringbah Sharks and Redfern All Blacks at Southern Cross Group Stadium, Cronulla. This match was played on the same night at the annual Jack Gibson Cup match featuring a selection of the best A Grade players from the South Sydney and Cronulla-Sutherland districts. In an exciting finish, the match finished in a 20-all draw.

In Saturday’s action, the Cronulla-Caringbah team continued their strong form with a dominant performance against Berkeley Vale, winning 58–0. Last year’s premier’s, the Greenacre Tigers, also continued their surge toward the top of the table after a slow start to the year. A 42–20 win over the Hunter Stars has lifted the Greenacre team to 10 points and sees them only two wins from the top of the table.

In Division 2, the top three sides in Glenmore Park, Berala and Minchinbury all scored strong wins to reinforce their positions at the top of the table.
