The New South Wales Rugby League would like to send its deepest condolences to the family of Cronulla Sharks immortal, Greg Pierce, who passed away yesterday, aged 66.

Pierce was the first Australian captain for the Sharks, and played 210 matches for the club between 1969 and 1980, appearing in the 1973 Grand Final against Manly.

He represented New South Wales on six occasions, and played for City twice in between 1976-79.

He was the first Sharks player to represent Australia and went on to play 24 matches in the green and gold, and was named captain in 1978 against New Zealand.

After retirement, he coached the Sharks for two seasons in 1981 and 1982, and in 2005 was named an immortal of the club.
