With the Women’s Interstate match taking centre stage this weekend the Division 1 SMWRL competition took a week off to allow for the large representation of players from this competition selected to be a part of the victorious NSW Blues Women’s squad. Of the 18 players selected as part of the final squad 16 play with the teams participating in the SMWRL Division 1 competition, making this competition a true pathway for aspirational female players.
The historic victory by the NSW Women’s team highlights the strength of the SMWRL competition and also adds to the excitement which will continue to build in the lead-up to the Semi-Finals when the stars of the NSW team will be challenged by others keen to make their presence felt in the hope of a representative opportunity in the future.
Meanwhile, the Division 2 competition continued over the weekend with competition leaders Glenmore Park again providing too strong for their opposition Chester Hill. Penrith Waratahs secured a convincing win over Maroubra to strengthen their hold on fourth position and move a step closer to securing themselves a semi-finals place. The final match scheduled for the weekend between Minchinbury and Berala was unfortunately postponed due to wet grounds.
