Description –

They’ve shown the potential to mix it with the top teams throughout the year, but the Wyong Roos are yet to put together a strong 80-minute performance according to second-rower Mitch Frei.

Since a spirited win over the Jets in Round 18, the Roos have been outscored in all five second halves – scoring just 34 points to the opposition’s 78. With a finals berth now confirmed, it’s an area that the team has been working hard to rectify before entering sudden-death football.

“We’ve been playing some good footy the past couple of weeks but what’s been letting us down has probably been playing for the full 80,” Frei told NSWRL.com.au. “It’s something we’ve got to work on going into the finals.”

Frei was judged the Roos’ best in their 26-16 win over the Knights with 173 metres, a try assist and a try to continue his strong run of form in 2016. The Wyong side was solid and led last-placed Newcastle for the entire game, but Frei reiterated the obvious room for improvement.

“We had a good first half, in the second half we weren’t at our best and that’s happened the past few weeks,” Frei said. “That’s something we’re working on and when we can play the full 80 minutes we’re a good chance of winning this comp.

“We should make the finals and we’re just focused on playing good footy – if we do that we’re in good stead to keep that form going in.”

The Roos are certain to finish either fifth or six after 25 rounds and with a big home game against the second-placed Cutters this week, will get a good gauge of how they’re performing ahead of a highly-anticipated finals series.
