Mounties skipper Glen Buttriss has already made plenty of sacrifices this year but Sunday afternoon's Intrust Super Premiership grand final against Illawarra Cutters was never going to be one of them.

Buttriss tore his pectoral midway through the season and through constant rehab was able to return within 12 weeks for the Mounties' preliminary final win over the Wests Tigers last weekend.

After playing 119 NRL games for the Raiders between 2008 and 2015, Buttriss signed a full-time contract with the Canberra feeder club at the beginning of the season.

The 31-year-old still lives in the nation's capital and juggles two jobs while still spending almost three days in Sydney every week.

"It was good timing. It's definitely been tough watching on from the sidelines," Buttriss said of his return in the Mounties' 24-18 victory.

"Considering the boys have been going really well, I would've liked to be a part of it. I tried to hang around and help the boys as much as I could and try and do my part while I wasn't playing. You do whatever you have to do for the club."

The NSWRL grand final day at Pirtek Stadium will feature the ISP, Ron Massey Cup and Sydney Shield deciders and will feature the Mounties in all three grades.

The Mounties finished minor premiers of all three competitions and Buttress labelled it a "special achievement".

"[ISP coach] Steve Antonelli is doing a great job. It's filtered through the club. There's a good morale around the boys at the moment," Buttriss said.

"Everyone is getting along and have done for the entire season. There's a good vibe there at the moment.

"It helps when you're winning games as well. The club is pretty professional for an Intrust Super Premiership side."

When he signed on for the Mounties little did Buttriss know he'd be joined by his former Raiders teammates Shaun Fensom, Paul Vaughan and Sam Williams for the majority of this season.

"I didn't really picture any of the boys coming back. Shaun has been great for us coming back. He does exactly what he does in the NRL," Buttriss said.

"He's been a workaholic these past few months since he's been back at the Mounties. He's been a great addition to the team.

"They have all copped [their demotions] on the chin and went along with it," he added.

"There's not much they could do about it really. They just had to get on with the job and make the most of it."
