Despite being only 25-years-old, Aaron Woods has emerged as one of the leaders within the NSW VB Blues playing roster.

Since making his debut in Game II 2013, Woods has not missed an Origin match, and has led from the front with his actions on the field with his inspiring attitude in both attack and defence.

The footage of Woods scoring a try at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last year for the VB Blues will be forever etched in Origin folklore, but his willingness to make the tough metres and the continuous tackles is why his teammates want to stand next to him and play with him in Rugby League’s toughest arena.

During the 2016 Origin series, he averaged more than 127 metres per game, more than 22 tackles per game, and was judged by his teammates as players’ player in their Game III victory at ANZ Stadium.

Woods will need to find another level of leadership in 2017 to fill the gaping void that the retiring Paul Gallen has left, and he is certainly among the contenders to replace him as captain.

Aaron Woods:

2016 Matches: 3 (Game I, II and III)
Tackles: 68
Metres Gained: 382
