Brisbane speedster James Roberts has received better-than-expected news after injuring his ankle last night against the Panthers.

Scans have revealed Roberts, a possible starter for the NSW VB Blues in the 2017 Origin series, has ligament damage – but not bone damage as first feared.

According to Broncos.com.au, Roberts is expected back by about Round 12 in late May, when Brisbane meet the Warriors, leaving him sitting on the sidelines for approximately four weeks.

Laurie Daley’s NSW Origin side will be named on 22 May, before the first clash with Queensland on Wednesday, 31 May at Suncorp Stadium.
