The Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership is well and truly underway with Round 4 of the 2017 campaign being held last weekend.
Mounties have taken an early stranglehold on the competition as they remain undefeated through the first four weeks, with a strong 28-14 over second-placed Greenacre cementing their position at the top of the ladder.
Boasting the best attacking and defensive records so far this season, they will be looking to continue their good form and search for their fifth straight victory against North Newcastle on Saturday afternoon.
Five-eighth Teina Clark has had a brilliant start to the season so far, with the classy playmaker leading the competition’s try-scorers’ tally with seven four-pointers and 48 points so far this season.
The Redfern All Blacks have also made a strong start to their new season with two victories in their first three games. Australian Jillaroos and Harvey Norman NSW Women’s halfback Maddie Studdon has enjoyed a strong start for her new club, putting in a valiant performance in their 54-28 loss to Glenmore Park in Round 3.
The Greenacre Tigers kick-started their season with a massive 50-12 victory over North Newcastle in Round 1, with centre Grace Clark leading the way and sitting equal first on the try-scorer’s list with seven tries to her name.
The Tigers will be looking to re-establish their defensive efforts after leaking 28 points on the weekend, but have shown significant commitment in defence throughout their first four fixtures, and will be looking to bounce back to form when they face the Redfern All Blacks at home on Saturday afternoon.
Glenmore Park made a big statement to the rest of the competition with a big 48-16 win over the Forestville Ferrets, with Taylor Osbourne putting in a starring two-try performance for the Brumbies.
Lock-forward Sarah Togatuki has also had a brilliant start to the season, dominating opposition forward packs and recording six tries so far across the first four rounds.
Defending premiers the Cronulla-Caringbah Sharks, along with the Berkley Vale Panthers, remain the two teams yet to record a win so far in 2017. The Sharks were edged out 38-26 against North Newcastle while the Panthers were forced to forfeit their Round 4 match against the Redfern All Blacks.
Round 5 of the Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Competition will see Greenacre do battle with Redfern at Belmore Sports Ground, with North Newcastle hosting the undefeated Mounties and Glenmore Park taking on the last-placed Berkley Vale on Saturday afternoon.
Sunday’s fixtures will see Forestville search for their first victory since Round 2 of the competition when they face a winless Cronulla-Caringbah outfit at Forestville Oval.
