Former NSW Origin player Todd Carney is returning to Rugby League in Australia, signing a three-year deal to play in Queensland’s Intrust Super Cup.

The 31-year-old will play with the Northern Pride, who finished 12th at the end of the 2017 Intrust Super Cup season.

Carney, who starred for the Raiders, Roosters and Sharks in his time in the NRL, moved to Europe in 2014 after his stint at Cronulla came to a controversial end.

The influential half linked with the Catalans Dragons ahead of the 2015 Super League season, before joining Salford in 2017.

Carney played all three matches for NSW in the 2012 Origin series, kicking seven goals, and claimed the 2010 Dally M Medal as the NRL’s best player.
