NSWRL’s newly appointed Head of Commercial and Community Relations, Jodie Cross, featured among a select group of speakers at the second Biennial Asia Pacific World Sport and Women Conference held at the SCG on Tuesday.

Invited to appear alongside the likes of seven-time world surfing champion Layne Beachley, Cross spoke of the importance of women in rugby league and programs run in her previous role as the NRL’s Community Relations Manager.

“We wanted to reflect that women make up a large part of the rugby league family,” Cross said of the highly successful programs.

“[The NRL] did a review of the game from the top down… It concluded that we needed greater recognition and support for women involved in the game, and we became aware that there were a lot of great commercial opportunities for us.”

Now a senior member of management team at the NSWRL, Cross is determined to ensure the success of the NSW VB Blues continues to translate into growth for rugby league at all levels, ages and genders, across New South Wales.
