Taking to Leichhardt Oval for the side's first field session ahead of Sunday's Country v City Origin fixture, Brad Fittler's KARI City Origin side are sourcing their motivation from within the squad itself.

Drawing from the knowledge and influence that 'Freddy' brings at the helm, City halfback Chad Townsend says he'll be calling upon the NSW True Blue as an aid heading into the representative clash at Mudgee.

"He'll be sick of me by the end of the week," Townsend says with a smile.

"He knows how to get the best out of the boys this week ... I really enjoyed my time with him last year, and when I was growing up I loved his left and right-foot step.

"To spend some time with him this week, and to ask him a lot of questions, I'll definitely enjoy the week."

For Manly's Curtis Sironen, it's the awe of a teammate with the status of a modern-day great that has him primed for the hit-out against Country.

"I've never played with Gal (KARI City Origin Captain Paul Gallen), he's one of the best players of our generation," Sironen says.

"I'll be trying to learn as much as I can."
