NSWRL Referees have banded together to raise more than $5,900 to be used for a trailer-load of hay bales and much-needed water for the drought-stricken farming communities of New South Wales.

The campaign – spearheaded by NSWRL match official Jake Sutherland – will see funds donated directly to the Rural Aid Initiative, "BUY A BALE".

With the original target of $5,700 already exceeded, the referees will continue to take donations up until the end of the NSWRL regular season.
