The 2019 premiers Ryde-Eastwood Hawks will look to defend their title in back-to-back Grand Final appearances as they prepare to face the Cronulla Caringbah Sharks in this weekend’s Sydney Shield grand final at Bankwest Stadium.
After comfortably securing their spot in the Grand Final through a 24-12 victory over the Helensburgh Tigers in the semi-final, The Hawks will no doubt be flying with confidence into this weekend.
The Hawks finished the regular season first on the ladder and boast a superstar roster with best-on-field in 2019’s Grand Final clash, Adam Rizk named to play for the defending premiers.
The Hawks player to watch, Rizk has scored three tries this season, with one of them being against their upcoming opponents in their 28-8 loss to the Sharks the last time these two teams met in Round 4.
The five-eighth will be in strong form to lead his side in the number six jersey with captain Mitchell Gray his partner in the halves, the same pairing who guided the team to last year’s premiership win against the Cabramatta Two Blues 22-12.
The experience of grand final pressures will be the Hawks big advantage over the Sharks who have never seen a Sydney Shield final since joining the competition in 2020.
