Origin is almost here! We're celebrating this incredible time of year by counting down our favourite NSW Origin memories. With just six days to go, here’s our sixth-ranked all-time favourite Blues moment - Freddy and Gus' fitting farewell.

The image captures the extremely emotional moment two greatly admired NSW State of Origin icons blew time on their respective representative coaching and playing careers.

Taken after fulltime of Game III of the 2004 series, where NSW won the match 36-14 and claimed the series 2-1, the image captures a magic moment in NSW Origin and indeed Rugby League history.

Phil Gould – the Blues’ most successful ever coach – took arguably his biggest risk by bringing NSW legend Brad Fittler out of representative retirement in Games II and III of that year's series.

Fittler answered the call... and he scored the final NSW try in Game III to seal the game and the series for the Blues. A fitting end to the representative careers of two rugby league legends – and a fitting way for the public to farewell them both.
