The NRL State Championship remains in Queensland after the Ipswich Jets claimed a 26-12 victory over VB NSW Cup champions, Newcastle Knights.
Crossing the line three times in the second half but to no avail, the luckless Knights tried mightily to send courageous captain Clint Newton out on a high in his final match.
But the Knights can indeed hold their heads high after a superb season, storming from seventh place to seize the VB NSW Cup and cap an unforgettable season, giving Newcastle plenty of reasons to be optimistic for next year.
