He’s been a mainstay at North Sydney this year and has played well beyond his years in guiding the Bears around the park; halfback Eli Levido is certainly a bright prospect for the Bears and Rabbitohs.

After spending the first half of 2015 in the Wests Tigers’ Holden Cup side, Levido opted to move to Redfern for added responsibility. South Sydney languished at the bottom of the ladder that season, but Levido proved his worth and made the transition into the Bears’ side this year. The 21-year-old impressed with his consistent kicking game, maintaining a level head in the most high-pressure scenarios.

The Bears had what can only be described as an inconsistent 2016 season, ultimately finishing 10th thanks to two heartbreaking losses to the Jets and Bulldogs in the past fortnight. Levido, however, took the reins nicely and asserted himself as a future leader of the side, despite rotating halves partners of Piki Rogers, Sitiveni Moceidreki and Cody Walker. His composure was on display for all to see in Round 10, kicking a field goal in the dying moments to sink the Sea Eagles at North Sydney Oval.

As a particularly vocal player, Levido has all the makings of a future NRL star – be it at the Rabbitohs or elsewhere. With the departure of Luke Keary, the Cessnock Goannas junior will be in contention for a first grade position at Redfern next year should injury strike.
