With no shortage of hype surrounding him, Holden Cup star Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad returned home in 2016 to continue his development into a future NRL star.
At times one of the most exciting players in the league, Nicoll-Klokstad has Rugby League in his blood; the 21-year-old has been a star at fullback, but brings utility value and can play any position in the backline or halves. Having spent five years in the Melbourne Storm junior system, Nicoll-Klokstad made his international debut for the Cook Islands last year, scoring a four-pointer to assert his name on the world stage.
His try-scoring ability was quickly noticed by the Warriors, who welcomed him back to New Zealand with a two-year-deal. Having played every game for the side and crossed the line 13 times this year – including a hat-trick against Mounties in Round 20 – it has proved a worthwhile investment for the Warriors. As for the man himself, he couldn’t be happier with the move.
“I’m pretty happy, obviously it’s my first year back at home after five years at Melbourne,” Nicoll-Klokstad told NSWRL.com.au. “Just having my family here, you know I’m really happy with how I’ve gone lately so hopefully take that into next week.”
“Family’s a big thing for me and I was probably a bit homesick when I was previously at Melbourne,” the City Newton junior added. “It’s real good to have my parents and my family around.”
Like most 21-year-olds, Nicoll-Klokstad has improvement left in him, but he will more than likely sit on the cusp of a first grade debut next season.
