NSW Origin halfback Adam Reynolds will be sidelined for up to four weeks after being diagnosed with appendicitis.

Reynolds debuted for Laurie Daley’s VB Blues in the first match of last year’s series and also played in the second fixture in Brisbane, before a shoulder injury ruled him out of the third game. He was replaced in the halves by Matt Moylan.

Reynolds' club coach Michael Maguire will name his first 21-man squad for the 2017 season next Tuesday.

While Reynolds' health concern will disrupt his start to the new season, it looks unlikely to affect his 2017 Origin prospects.

The NSWRL wishes Adam a speedy recovery.
