In a bid to eliminate poor behaviour on and off the field, the NSWRL is implementing a Junior League ‘Respect' campaign across Sydney. The primary aim is to ensure all players, volunteers and parents act in a manner that displays the core values of the game.
The Respect Round this weekend, 20-21 May 2017, involves ALL NSWRL Junior League clubs, focusing on coaches, referees and players demonstrating actions of respect. They will all be required to shake hands on the field prior to the kick-off of all matches this weekend. Coaches will also be wearing #letthemplay caps, while team captains will wear “Respect” yellow armbands to demonstrate their leadership and respect in the team.
Clubs and teams are encouraged to take photos of their coaches, players and referees shaking hands, and use the hashtags #lethemplay and #respect. The most active clubs with photos on their Facebook page will be rewarded with a prize!
Coaches
During the NSWRL Junior League Respect Round all coaches of a team are required to meet on the field, with the players, and shake hands with the match officials prior to kick-off. In addition to this, all coaches are to wear a #lethemplay cap identifying them as the leader, demonstrating they believe in and display the core values of the game.
Players
Players across Sydney during the NSWRL Junior League Respect Round are required to meet on the field, line up opposite to each other and shake hands prior to kick-off. In addition to this, all captains are to wear a #respect armband identifying them as the leader, demonstrating they believe in and display the core values of the game.
Referees
During the NSWRL Junior League Respect Round, all match officials and referees are required to meet on the field, alongside the players and shake hands with the coach prior to kick-off. By doing this, the referees and match officials are demonstrating their desire to adhere to and respect the game.
