Josh Dugan has declared himself a certainty to line up in the 2017 Holden State of Origin Series opener, having tested out his injured cheekbone in yesterday's training session.

"I did a little bit yesterday on left and rights and I'll build up on that today," Dugan said. "I'm confident in it and I spoke to the staff before I came in here and to the surgeon as well and he was fully confident too.

"That puts my mind at ease."

Dugan expects his injury to be targeted in next Wednesday's clash, admitting that it's "fair game" among all players who run out onto the Suncorp Stadium turf.

"If they do target it, I've got the players around me to help me out. I'm pretty confident that we'll handle what they throw at us."

The Dragons fullback, who will line up in the centres for the NSW VB Blues, also praised Laurie Daley's decision to select him alongside fellow fullbacks James Tedesco and Jarryd Hayne. The trio will all take their place in the VB Blues' back line, with attacking combinations already developing. View Dugan's full interview in the video above.
