Physical Disability Rugby League Grand Final | Newtown Jets v Manly Sea Eagles

The Newtown Jets were crowned the 2017 premiers after they defeated Manly 14-6 in the grand final of the New South Wales Physical Disability Rugby League played at New Era Stadium in Cabramatta.

Played with great spirit throughout the two 20-minute halves, the Jets opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Nick Riches raced down the sideline to score.

Ed Sharp then raced onto a pass to crash over adjacent to the posts. Denzel Edwards was spot on with the conversion.

Sharp added another try in the second half before Manly scored a consolation try to Bow Lennon.

The NSW Physical Disability  Rugby League continues to grow in numbers with Wests Tigers added this year for a five-team competition. The other clubs competing are the Sydney Roosters and South Sydney.

In February 2018, Australia, New Zealand and an All-Stars combined side will feature in the northern Brisbane suburb of Redcliffe as part of the demonstration sports of the Commonwealth Games.

Try Time Rugby League Wrap

Try Time Rugby League is a competition for special needs children and adults such as autism and down syndrome.

The competition is broken into a senior and junior competitions with four clubs initially involved – Wentworthville, Quakers Hill, Penrith Brothers and Minchinbury.

The number of teams is set to increase next year with many clubs showing an interest in joining.

The competition for the seniors is played over two 20-minute halves while the juniors (aged 5 to 13) is held over three eight-minute periods. In the seniors, an exhibition match was held between Wentworthville and Parramatta junior club Canley Vale.

The main focus of the game is fun and that was evident as Wentworthville Magpies skipped away to a 22-4 lead at half-time. In the end, they held on to win 36-30 in a high scoring entertaining match. NRL player Frank Pritchard was a special guest for the Wenty side.

In the junior match, Wentworthville emerged victorious 32-10 over Hills District.
