Representative honours: Australia 8 Tests (1981-84); NSW 7 Interstate matches (1977-81), 9 State of Origins (1982-85)

Steve Mortimer burst on the Sydney scene in 1976 but his first taste of representative football was a sour one that forced him to mature as a player. Premiership success at club level steeled him so that he was a star for NSW and Australia and he holds a special place in NSW Origin lore as captain of the first Blues side to win a series in 1985.
