NSWRL pays tribute to Queens Birthday Honours recipients
The New South Wales Rugby League would like to congratulate the following Rugby League identities on their respective Queens Birthday Honours:
Phil GOULD - For significant service to rugby league as an administrator, coach, commentator and player, and to the community.
Nick POLITIS - For significant service to rugby league football as an administrator.
Don FELTIS - For service to rugby league in NSW.
Ray WARREN - For service to the broadcast media industry as a sports commentator.
Peter FILMER - For service to the community, particularly though sport as a coach and administrator.
All of these men have significant ties to the game of rugby league in NSW.
Both Nick Politis and Don Feltis continue to play a leading role at the Roosters and Panthers clubs respectively, while Mr Politis also serves as a director of the NSWRL.
Phil Gould is also currently the Executive General Manager at the Penrith Panthers RLFC but will long be remembered as one of the NSW Blues greatest ever coaches.
Ray Warren is a doyen of the media industry, and some of his legendary Origin calls will go down in league folklore.
Peter Filmer is a Life Member of the New South Wales Rugby League Referees Association and still continues to assist in the development of the next generation of referee through coaching and also by serving as a match day assessor.
NSWRL chief executive, David Trodden, was suitably pleased by the recognition that has been paid to some of the games greats.
“Nick has dedicated almost a lifetime of administration to the game, and he’s been at the forefront of many of the most significant changes in the game, such as the introduction of front-of-jersey sponsorship and the creation of the Independent Commission,” NSWRL chief executive David Trodden said.
“Phil has been one of the preeminent coaches in the game, and certainly one of the most influential figures over the last 30 years.
“It was great to see so many rugby league identities recognised for their significant achievements.”
Once again, congratulations to all of those recognised in the 2014 Queen's Birthday Honour List.
