Last Sunday’s VB NSW Cup Grand Final at Allianz Stadium saw the Penrith Panthers crowned as the 2014 VB NSW Cup Premiers.
Below are the numbers that mattered most as we bring you our final ‘Stat Attack’ of the year.
Penrith Panthers 48 (Kieran Moss 3, Eto Nabuli, Luke Capewell, Waqa Blake, Isaah Yeo, Ryan Simpkins tries; Wes Naiqama 7, Kevin Kingston goals) def. Newcastle Knights 12 (Pat Vaivai, Matt Minto tries; Josh Mantellato 2 goals)
There were ten tries scored in the match, eight to the Panthers and two to the Knights.
Kieran Moss was named man of the match after he scored three tries and ran for 97 metres with 12 runs of the ball which included a line break and a tackle bust.
Sam Anderson showed us just why he was named in the VB NSW Cup Team of the Year when he led all players with a game high 156 metres from 18 hit-ups.
The two captains led by example as Kevin Kingston (38) and Matt Hilder (42) made more tackles than any other players on the park.
As you would expect given the final score line, the Panthers dominated on the ground and in the air as they made 1389 metres along the ground and a further 470 kick metres.
The Panthers completed 83% of their sets (30/36) while the Knights managed 79% (26/33).
Nathan Ross had a game high nine tackle breaks for the match with Tom Humble just behind him with seven.
Pat Vaivai (108) was the only Knights forward to run for over 100 metres while the Panthers had three players manage to post three figures. They were Sam Anderson (156), Reagan Campbell-Gillard (117) and Vaipuna Tia Kilifi (115).
