The captain of the NSW VB Blues, Paul Gallen, will not play in Origin I this year after he and coach Laurie Daley agreed it to be in the best interests of the team.

Gallen, who is suffering a hip complaint, and Daley agreed on the decision after discussing the matter today.

“After talking, Gal and I decided it is in the best interests of the team to get the injury healed and when it has fully recovered he’ll be welcomed straight back,” Daley said.

“It was a really difficult decision for us both to come to because Gal, as captain, is such an important part of our team, and he places such a high value on playing for New South Wales.”

The NSW VB Blues side for Origin I will be announced at The Star on Tuesday.

Answer the call and get behind the NSW VB Blues when they take on Queensland in this year’s Holden State of Origin. The only Origin match in Sydney this year is played on May 27. There’s no better way to support the Blues than being a part of the Blatchys Blues crowd - join the Official NSW VB Blues supporter bays for Origin I here.
