The NSW Women's Side fell agonisingly short of ending Queensland's 16-year unbeaten streak, with nothing separating either side after an 80-minute 4-4 draw at 1300SMILES Stadium.

Without extra time, the draw means Queensland will retain the Shield for the 17th consecutive year.

Trailing 4-0 after 30 minutes, NSW finally crossed for their first try in the 65th minute when Mahalia Murphy popped a sensational offload for an impressive passage of play that lead to the Blues shifting the ball to the right for Isabelle Kelly to score out wide and tie the game 4-4.

However, NSW were unable to score ahead for the historic victory despite threatening Queensland's tryline on several occasions.

Queensland dominated the first half as NSW defense resiliently repelled the attack to face an encouraging 4-0 halftime deficit.

It was a gutsy defensive performance for both sides but NSW will be disappointed with their execution, lamenting several opportunities to score in the second half.

NSW were extremely unlucky not to score a try with a grubber kick wickedly bouncing out of Shani Sleeman's grasp.

For NSW, forward props, captain Elianna Walton and Ruan Sims were superb in carrying their side upfield repeatedly and worked tirelessly in defence.
