Day by day, we take an in-depth look at every member of the 2016 Intrust Super Premiership NSW Team Of The Year. Today we look at the five-eighth: Josh Cleeland.
Standing above a host of high-quality candidates, Cleeland was at his dynamic best for the Jets this season and was the catalyst for a number of Newtown wins this year. In his first year in the Intrust Super Premiership NSW - following an Intrust Super Cup and NRL Intrust Super State Championship victory for the Ipswich Jets - the no.6 laid on 11 try-assists and made 13 line-breaks himself, also taking on the main kicking duties at Newtown to be a key part of their attack.
The most notable of his performances this year came in the two Frank Hyde Shield games against the North Sydney Bears; the young Queenslander was outstanding in lifting the Jets to come from behind for two victories.
Having signed with the Bulldogs on a two-year deal, Cleeland’s speed and vision are great for someone still new to the pace of top-level Rugby League and will only improve in future seasons.
