It’s the first taste the stars of tomorrow get of high-quality Rugby League and once again, the Harold Matthews Cup (under-16s) promises to deliver an insight into your club’s future.

A vital stepping stone for young players, Harold Matthews is traditionally also an exciting brand of football and with the release of the 2017 draw, this season will be no different. The removal of South West Sydney Academy of Sport, who went winless in 2016 to finish the season in last place, means a higher-quality and even competition of 16 sides will exist this year. The nine-week competition will, where possible, run alongside the 17-side SG Ball season and will culminate with the grand final on 6 May – due to the cessation of the QRL’s under-16s Cyril Connell Cup, there will be no National Junior Final in the under-16s division this year.

Eight games per weekend will ensure that a high standard of junior football reaches all parts of Sydney, as well as the Wollongong, the Central Coast and Newcastle once again, setting the stage for another exciting Harold Matthews season.
