Round 5 of the Tarsha Gale Cup saw the Cronulla Sharks' undefeated streak come to an end, with the Illawarra Steelers knocking them off after showing plenty of promise in their opening three games. 

The Penrith Panthers scraped home against Parramatta, while South Sydney won 30-16 against the Canberra Raiders. Sydney Indigenous Academy, meanwhile, recorded their first win of the season.
