NSW Rugby League True Blue Brad Fittler has indicated his want – as one of several other candidates –  to fill the Blues’ vacant State of Origin coaching role.

Speaking at the laying of the NSWRL Centre of Excellence Foundation Stone, the 31-time NSW representative made clear that he hopes to be the man in charge, to lead the Blues at the 2018 State of Origin series.

“I think I want the job. Well, I don’t even think I do, I do want the job. But like I said, I need to – as well as NSW Rugby League and with what they need – make sure that it all falls into place first,” Fittler said.

“The important part for any coach, whoever it’s going to be, is making sure they get the right players.

“It’s important that our NSW players show the sort of player we want them to be, for their [club] team each week.

“That’s the thing that mostly Queensland, where they’ve shone in the last 10 years … the best Queensland players have shown that they’re the best club players. We need to get the best club players.”
