Cronulla might have said goodbye to Valentine Holmes but Sharks fans might not have to wait too long for a replacement fullback to emerge if the club's faith in a teenage rugby sensation pays off.
Jangala Bennet, 18, has arrived in the Sutherland Shire with a big reputation after helping Brisbane's Nudgee College to a GPS First XV title in 2018.
The Sharks are keeping a lid on the talented teenager with the dancing feet but there have already been comparisons made to a young Johnathan Thurston or Ben Barba.
Queensland have been so impressed by his talent he was recently named in the Emerging Maroons Under-20s Origin squad for a four-day camp in December.
"We'll just take it nice and easy with him but he's exciting," Sharks recruitment manager Grant Jones told NSWRL.com.au.
"You've seen him move and you can't coach that. You need x factor in any footy team and he's got that with his elusiveness and speed.
"Even though he's not big at the moment he seems to be able to get big blokes down, he's smart and can get his body in the right spot."
The Sharks beat out other NRL clubs to sign Bennet to a two-year contract and he is expected to be unveiled in the Jersey Flegg competition next season.
Bennet only tips the scales around 73 kilograms and still has some filling out to do but if the footage above is anything to go by he could be a player to keep an eye on for the future after Holmes left the Sharks to pursue a career in the NFL.
"He's going to be a running player so if he's got the endurance to be able to play fullback ... he's got the skills to play fullback but he's got to have the endurance to be able to do it," Jones said.
"If he can cope with that, fullback, if not then you'd probably look at him as a No.6.
"He's got good attitude and good strength and he's going to grow. He's got goo catch-pass, he's good on his feet and he's pretty alert.
"He's been playing rugby for a number of years, he hasn't played league so we'll just take it nice and easy with him."
