The Canterbury Cup NSW competition is rapidly approaching and True Blue and Channel Nine commentator Jamie Soward have cast his eye over all 12 teams for nswrl.com.au to find the winner for 2019.

The news is not so good for Wentworthville Magpies, with Soward tipping them to face an even bigger battle than their 10th placed finish last season with former coach Nathan Cayless moving on and being replaced by Canterbury Cup NSW veteran Rip Taylor.

Soward said the Magpies’ fortunes would hinge largely on the form of Parramatta Eels in the NRL, and particularly how heavily involved Jaeman Salmon, Dylan Brown, Josh Hoffman and Bevan French were for either team.

“Wentworthville Magpies were very disappointing last year, they used 52 players throughout the year,” Soward said.

“I think they struggle again in 2019 and I’ve got them finishing 12th.”
