The future is bright for young halfback Dean Hawkins.

The Canterbury Cup NSW competition is rapidly approaching and True Blue and Channel Nine commentator Jamie Soward have cast his eye over all 12 teams for nswrl.com.au to find the winner for 2019.

The North Sydney Bears will enjoy a new venture as feeder club to the Sydney Roosters for the next five seasons and Jamie Soward believes the move will pay dividends and expects the foundation club to make the top eight in 2019.

Such is the talent of the Sydney Roosters NRL Top 30 squad that the Bears will be full of confidence when they take the field in the Canterbury Cup NSW, and they boast plenty of exciting young talent such as Lachlan Lam and Brock Lamb.

But Soward is of the opinion that it's one of the new additions to the squad which will be the most crucial in their on-field efforts this year.

"Craig Garvey (is an) outstanding hooker, he's been around for a long time now and (he) lead the competition in try assists last year,' Soward told NSWRL.com.au.

"He was sorely missed by the Mounties when he moved on...he'll push for an NRL spot if Jake Friend goes down."
