The Canterbury Cup NSW competition is rapidly approaching and True Blue and Channel Nine commentator Jamie Soward have cast his eye over all 12 teams for nswrl.com.au to find the winner for 2019.

True Blue Jamie Soward has predicted further heartbreak for the Western Suburbs Magpies in 2019 – predicting them to finish ninth in the Canterbury Cup NSW competition despite their success last season.

Their depth will be tested throughout the season with plenty of their NRL Top 30 members expected to feature in first-grade this year, and but bank on the likes of Tyson Gamble and Luke Garner to put on a Magpies jersey reguarly this season.

Brett Hodgson will look to replicate his sides formidable defence from their early performances last year, but Soward believes their season could be heavily dependent on who makes the No.9 jersey their own.

One of the big positives over the Western Suburbs Magpies and Wests Tigers is the hooking role – will Jacob Liddle start in the (Canterbury Cup) or will they maybe see Robbie Farah throughout the year," Soward told NSWRL.com.au.

"I see this as a real positive but I've got them sliding in 2019 and finishing ninth."
