The New South Wales Rugby League is saddened to hear of the passing St George and NSW winger Eddie Lumsden, aged 83.

Lumsden, who passed away yesterday on the morning of the 2019 NRL Grand Final day, represented NSW in his debut season with the Dragons and scored 18 tries in 19 games for the Blues (1957-63).

After retiring he spent 23 years as a Country and NSW selector and in 1998 he was awarded a Life Membership of NSWRL.

Lumsden won nine premierships with St George in a decade long career from 1957-66 and is remembered for his try-scoring ability, scoring 137 tries in 162 matches for the Dragons, including two grand final hat-tricks in 1959 and 1961, placing him 25th on the all-time scorer’s list.

Lumsden, who hails from Kurri Kurri in the Hunter region, also played 15 Tests for Australia and was named in rugby league’s 100 greatest players for the game’s centenary in 2008.
