The NSWRL has cancelled the Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues’ children’s clinic and visit to Batemans Bay tomorrow (Saturday 1 February) having taken advice from relevant authorities about the forecast extremely hot conditions in the region and the associated potential bushfire risk.

NSWRL Chief Executive David Trodden said: “Uppermost in our minds is the welfare of the south coast community; and allowing them to devote their attention and resources to the risks they may be facing tomorrow is by far the most important consideration.

“We are extremely sorry to disappoint the people in the area who were looking forward to the visit, but the safety of everyone in the area is paramount and our thoughts are with them.”

Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler had planned the football clinic for local children as part of a visit to raise community spirits in the region which has been devastated by ongoing bushfires.

The Blues squad will now assemble in Sydney on Saturday for Fittler’s last opportunity with them ahead of the NRL season starting and their Origin-proper preparations in late May for Game One of the 2020 Holden State of Origin Series.
