The NSWRL was saddened to hear of the passing of Greg Hawick, a former champion utility back for South Sydney, NSW and Australia in the 1950s, on Thursday 6 February.

Hawick, 87, played eight games for NSW (1953-58), six Tests for Australia (1952-58) and was named five-eighth in an Australian 1950s Rugby League team of the decade.

Hawick played in five premiership winning teams during his career with South Sydney from 1950-56, scoring 19 tries and kicking 62 goals for a total of 181 career points in 84 first grade games.

Hawick played his club football with Wagga Wagga (1957-58, 1961-63) and had a stint playing with North Sydney (1958-60). He also coached the Bears from 1984-85.

The NSWRL sends our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
