Fiji claim maiden Ron Massey Cup win

The Kaiviti Silktails have made history after recording their first win in the Ron Massey Cup, since joining the competition this year, with a resounding 40-16 victory over the Windsor Wolves.

Winger Vereti Peceli has etched his name into the history books after scoring the team’s maiden try two minutes into the match, following a 60-metre run to score untouched under the posts.

Windsor quickly bounced back with three successive tries to William Butler, Cooper Pereira and Jak Cannell to take a 16-6 lead.

Fiji hooker Penioni Tagituimua got his team back in the contest as he charged from the base of the ruck to catch the opposition off-guard, not once but twice, and had both teams locked up at 16-all heading into half-time.

Ten minutes into the second half Silktails centre Nabetelevu Turaganivalu broke away 40 metres out from the try line and halfback Apimeleki Lutuiwai extended their lead.

A moment of sheer individual brilliance from fullback Ratu Timoci Namotukola came in the 66th minute when he ran 80 metres, side stepping the entire opposition to score.

Apakuki Tavodi brought the curtains down with a barging run to score on the full-time siren, much to the delight of the fans at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
