South Sydney Rabbitohs forward Cameron Murray left the field in the 67th minute against Brisbane on Thursday night with a knee complaint but coach Wayne Bennett believes he will be alright.
The Rabbitohs won their opening game of the season but lost to the Broncos and would be keen to have the hard-working forward back on deck for Friday night’s match against Sydney Rooosters.
“I think his knee is okay,” Bennett said.
“I spoke to him after the game and I think he’s okay.”
Roosters captain Boyd Cordner was again noticeably absent in his sides match against the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles at Leichardt, which Manly won 9-8. Jake Friend took over captaining duties in Cordner’s absence as the club look to welcome him back this week for their Round 3 clash against the Rabbitohs.
The Roosters will also be looking to welcome back youngster Nat Butcher after he was ruled out on Saturday. Butcher picked up a knee injury during the World Club Challenge.
St George Illawarra Dragons captain Cameron McInnes was expected to make a return from a knee injury, that he picked up at the NRL Nines, in Round 8 but Dragons coach Paul McGregor said “he’s a very good chance” of making his return in Round 3.
With McInnes and a suspended Tariq Sims back next week McGregor is confident it will boost his side.
“Two players back with their calibre definitely helps our football team,” McGregor said.
Cronulla Sharks captain Wade Graham is hoping to be being fit to face the Newcastle Knights this week despite limping from the field in Saturday night's 10-12 loss to Melbourne with a foot injury.
Cronulla coach John Morris said taking Graham off was a precautionary measure more than anything.
“Just a foot issue but he is pretty confident it is nothing major,” Morris said.
“It was just bothering him and he was not quite sure what it was.
“It was a big play for us you know, losing Wade Graham inside that last 15, obviously we need him out there on the field to try and help win those games so that hurt us.”
Parramatta Eels lock Nathan Brown was charged with Grade 2 dangerous contact on Dale Copley on Sunday and has taken an early guilty plea.
